Contractor: Astaldi - Cimolai SpADescription: the E-ELT (acronym for European Extre- mely Large Telescope) will be the largest telescope ever built, with a 39 m diameter primary mirror. It will be located at Cerro Armazones in the Chilean An- des, about 3,000 m above sea level. The telescope consists of a steel structure 71 m in diameter and 62 m high. It will be equipped with sliding doors and positioned within a rotating steel structure, called “the dome”, which has a diameter of 92 m and a height of 80 m.
