Cimolai S.p.A. built the new steel deck arch bridge near the city of Arequipa, in southern Peru.
The structure consists of a tubular steel arch, with a diameter of 2,250 mm and variable thicknesses, spanning 175 m between springing points and weighing 1,350 t. The upper viaduct, with a composite steel-concrete trapezoidal section, extends over eleven spans of 35 m and 28 m, reaching an overall length of 371 m and weighing 1,150 t for the steelwork alone.
The total weight of the steel structures built by Cimolai amounts to approximately 2,500 t.
Crossing a 120 m-deep gorge, the bridge is distinguished by its unusual negative gradient, clearly visible to the naked eye, which defines its distinctive architectural and structural profile.
